The Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council (WSBC) is proud to announce its 2023 Sustainable Business Award Winners. The Sustainable Business Awards celebrate recipients for showing cutting-edge environmental, social, and governance leadership while rewarding them for being leaders in their industry and community. The finalists demonstrate leadership, initiative, and innovation and make measurable impacts across their businesses and the communities they serve.

The Award winners were announced at the WSBC Awards Reception at Findorff in Madison, on November 15, 2023. The WSBC hosted their annual conference the following day at TruStage with their first-ever sold-out conference.

 

The Sustainable Business Award Winner for 2023 are:

 

Sustainable Product of the Year: Résiste® 15% PCW by Appvion

Scott is an outstanding leader and sustainability is built into his DNA. He shows a lifestyle and commitment to sustainability day in and day out. He empowers his Leadership team to move the initiatives forward, while also making sure that all team members are aware of the goals and the rationale behind the decisions. He has an open-door policy for all team members to approach with ideas or concerns. He truly holds the philosophy that we embrace the diversity of our team for their perspectives.

2023 Sustainability Champion of the Year:  Kevin Tubbs, Vice President and Chief Ethics, Compliance and Sustainability Officer Oshkosh Corporation

Kevin Tubbs came to Oshkosh Corporation in 2012 to develop and implement a sustainability program. Since that time, Oshkosh has become known both inside and outside of Wisconsin as a leader in the sustainability space. The company under Kevin's leadership established KPIs for energy and waste reduction to drive performance in areas that the organization could rally around. Kevin was instrumental in Oshkosh's decision to make a public commitment to establish Science Based Targets to further reduce the company's greenhouse gas emissions well into the future.

 

Runner Ups: Cindy Bohlen, Chief Mindfulness Officer, River Water Partners, and Michelle Miller, Sustainability Manager North America, Symrise

 

A special leadership award is also given in honor of WSBC’s founder and executive director emeritus. The Thomas L. Eggert Leadership Forward Award recognizes Eggert’s legacy and countless contributions to the Wisconsin Sustainable Business Community. This award recognizes individuals who have supported and contributed to growing and extending the network of sustainability resources across Wisconsin. The 2023 Award was given to Jeff Thompson, MD, Executive Advisor, CEO Emeritus Gundersen Health System.
